In 1995 Dr. med. Simone Hellmann successfully completed her undergraduate medical training at the Medical University of Hannover (MHH), Germany. Thereafter she continued specialist training in General Surgery in Hannover and became a board certified General Surgeon in 2002. She achieved additional qualifications as an emergency medicine specialist as well as further qualifications in medical management and quality management.
In 2002 she moved to Cologne, Germany and continued her surgical training in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Her training in Plastic Surgery started at the University Hospital of Cologne-Merheim, which included a 10- patient intensive care burn unit.
In 2007 she qualified and became a board certified specialist in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition Dr. med. Simone Hellmann took the exam for the US medical state examination by choice. After achieving her German board certification as a specialist for PlasticAesthetic surgery she voluntarily took the European examination in front of the international examination board (EBOPRAS) in Madrid, Spain. She achieved her European board certification and became a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Until 2009 she then worked as an assistant medical director and plastic surgery consultant in the Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at the SANA-Clinic Düsseldorf-Gerresheim (Head of Department: Prof Dr. med. Christoph Andree). This is an international center of excellence for breast reconstruction especially with the DIEP-free flap reconstruction.
The center performs in excess 200 free flaps per year and a training exchange program with Harvard University Medical School. As a Dr. med. In January 2010 Dr. med Simone Hellmann started her own private practice in Cologne (www.h-praxis.de). She concentrates mainly on aesthetic surgery.
Dr Hellmann regular participates in national and international congresses. She regularly undertakes international study visits and as part of her ongoing advanced training in South Africa she works with Dr. Dirk Lazarus in his private cosmetic clinic in Capetown.
Dr. Hellmann is a well-known speaker and lectures on regular basis at both national and international meetings on microsurgical breast reconstruction, abdominoplasty, blepharoplasty, otopexy, extremity reconstruction, complications with fillers and other topics.
